5 Reasons to Plan a Winter Wedding

We have so much love for a winter wedding and yet they are so underrated.

We get it, Perth weddings are beautiful in the sunshine. But the reality is, weather is unpredictable and even in the peak of summer we’ve had some crazy down pours on wedding days. Winter weddings can be just as beautiful. Don’t be afraid to plan a winter wedding in Perth, just be smart about the choices you make!

Here are five reasons to shake off your cold feet and plan a winter wedding.

1. Photography magic - every photographer EVER will tell you how amazing grey skies and cloudy days are for photos. It creates a mood that a sunshiny day just can’t deliver. The light is infinitely better for photographs. And if you happen to get a sprinkle as well (extra points for rain at night time) man, will your photographer be able to work some serious magic with that!

2. Intimate ceremonies - have you ever seen the way a group of birds huddle in the cold? That’s what people are like in cold and rainy weather. They huddle. They come in close to feel the warmth and share umbrellas to hear the vows. It creates a really beautiful intimate mood. If you’re outside for your winter wedding ceremony - provide umbrellas - feel free to colour code them - all clear, all white, or rainbow if that’s your bag. The other option ofcourse is to plan an indoor ceremony, with moody weather outdoors an indoor winter ceremony provides an opportunity for candlelight, mood lighting and luscious blooms. Add in your guests and the vibe has potential to be truly magic.

3. No sweat - literally none! Wedding outfits are heavy duty. Add to that a face full of long lasting makeup, heels and a killer hairdo and it’s a lot for a summers’ day. The best thing about a winter wedding is knowing you’re not going to have sweat dripping down you’d back and ruining your makeup. You’ll be literally as cool as a cucumber. Also how beautiful are long sleeve wedding gowns!

4. More availability - it’s just a fact of the wedding industry - because weddings are not as popular in winter, your favourite florist, planner, musician, photographer, dog chaperone etc. is less likely to be booked out for your winter wedding day. So you may end up with a better choice of available vendors!

5. Fresh blooms - as a florist, winter weddings are a bit of a relief if I’m honest because your flowers just last longer. You won’t have to worry about delicate blooms wilting in the heat and we won’t have to worry about flowers (or florists) getting cooked under a clear marquee.
